- Event Date: 4th November 2024
- Venue: Keele University & Via Recorded Sessions
- Organiser: Keele University
This course is open to any resident or business located within the Staffordshire Moorlands, but it is predominantly aimed at a business setting.
This course will cover four core topics to help organisations on their journey to net zero:
- What is the net zero challenge? (4th Nov – 1st Dec)
- What can my organisation do? (Full day in person at Keele) (5th Dec or 11th Dec)
- What I can do to support others to reduce their emissions? (13th Jan – 3rd Feb)
- What does the future of the net zero transition hold? (10th Feb – 24th Feb)
People can participate in just one of the four sections or all four! (Each part/topic includes four taught sessions).
Some of the key skills that participants/companies will take away include:
- Ways to locate finance for achieving net zero to support your organisation
- The ability to complete an organisational carbon footprint
- Understanding of critical and emerging technologies to support your organization
- Tools to communicate effectively with your workforce
Any Moorlands based organisation is welcome to apply, however we especially welcome applicants working in SMEs and not for profits.
Candidates for the course may include:
- Owners and senior leaders/management
- Climate, energy and sustainability leads
- Apprentices
- This is obviously not an exhaustive list!
Benefits of the course include:
- Giving people the power to lead the way on the net zero transition
- Identifying ways to improve organisations reputation
- Preparing organisations for changing legislation around net zero
- Identifying upcoming and existing requirements to access tender opportunities (e.g. how to report scope one and two carbon emissions)
- Understanding of the key upcoming legislation and the new government policy agenda and how may shape businesses
- An ability to understand key risk arising from climate change and the net zero transition so appropriate risk management measures can be taken
How much time will it take?
Each week we have a two hour online session, which will be run based on the availability of our incoming cohort.
There will also be an option to visit Keele to see our state of the art facilities and explore how we reduced our electricity carbon footprint by 50%.
What happens if I miss a session?
You/participants will have a chance to join one of two sessions each week. However, sessions will be recorded so that you can catch up if you miss a session. To complete the course, you only need to attend four of the twelve sessions.
