Stafford Rangers Football Club is a semi-professional English football team from Stafford which plays in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Rangers’ rivals include Tamworth, Hednesford Town, Burton Albion, and Telford United.
The site consists of two buildings/ units. Unit 1 is the social club and Unit 2 is the changing rooms and administration block. The buildings are 40-50 years old and this assessment focussed on the possible replacement of lighting in the social club, changing room and administration area and the replacement of the heating and hot water system in the changing rooms and administration areas.
LCBEP Project Recommendations
LCBEP specialist low carbon consultant ProEnviro Ltd visited Stafford Rangers Football Club to undertake a free LCBEP energy review to assess the benefits of replacing Heating and Hot Water System and installing energy efficient LED Lighting.
1) Replacing Heating and Hot Water System
The heating system at Marston Road has been replaced with a split system that provided heat for the working areas via an appropriately sized high efficiency boiler and hot water for the showers in the changing rooms through a dedicated water heater that could heat the required volume of water when required and not operate when there was no demand for large volumes of hot water.
The splitting of the two systems and the introduction of improved controls on the shower heads and taps reduced the gas consumption by 50%.
A 50% savings reduced consumption by 17,770 kWh, costs by £605 and saved 3.3 tCO2e. The cost of installing a large-scale hot water heater and 45kW heating boiler was £21,600.
2) LED Lighting
The USE of LED lighting with sensors in areas of low occupancy was recommended by the LCBEP Free Energy review. The impact of these changes to the lighting resulted in a reduction of 8,031 kWh, 2.3 tonnes of CO2e and £1,205 in energy costs and resulting in a payback period of 8 years!
The Low Carbon Business Evolution Programme (LCBEP) is supporting businesses across Stoke on Trent & Staffordshire LEP reduce their carbon footprint and increase energy efficiency. This project is part funded with support from the European Regional Development Fund Programme 2014 – 2020 and delivered by Staffordshire County Council in partnership with Keele University, along with our specialist consultant ProEnviro Ltd.
