Staffordshire businesses are stepping up to support care leavers, providing them with valuable employment opportunities and helping them transition into the workforce. This initiative is crucial for the over 1,000 young people in Staffordshire who have lived with foster families, in children’s homes, or other supported housing services. Despite their capabilities, care leavers often face challenges in securing education, employment, or training.

Several local businesses, including JG Fenn, Cosydirect, Time for Sport UK, and 1 Step Beyond, have committed to employing care leavers, thereby boosting their workforce diversity and contributing to the local community

These businesses are recognized through the Care Leavers’ Quality Mark, which is awarded in gold, silver, and bronze tiers based on their level of commitment.

  • Gold Quality Mark: Awarded to businesses that employ care leavers, contribute £250 or more annually to the Care Leavers’ Bursary Fund, and offer automatic interviews to care leavers meeting the minimum job criteria
  • Silver Quality Mark: Given to businesses that contribute £250 or more annually to the Bursary Fund and offer automatic interviews to care leavers
  • Bronze Quality Mark: Presented to businesses that offer automatic interviews to care leavers meeting the minimum job criteria

Additionally, the Care Leavers’ Bursary Fund plays a pivotal role in this initiative. Managed by the Community Foundation for Staffordshire and Shropshire, the fund supports care leavers with training, employment-related costs, and higher education expenses. Contributions to this fund are match-funded by the Staffordshire Community Fund, doubling the impact of each donation.
