An energy broker who launched a million-pound mission to give back to good causes after overcoming a life-threatening brain condition has won a top business award.
sben member Matt Small embarked on a challenge to generate £1 million for organisations in the care, education and charity sectors through energy brokering after making a full recovery from a colloid cyst on the brain which originally saw him being given just six months to live.
His company T150 Energy clinched the Business of the Year titles at the SLTC Awards, held by the Royal Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield & Tamworth and Cannock Chase Chambers.
The Rugeley-based firm, which helps businesses get the best deals on their energy, also picked up the Community Builder award at the same event.
Through the Payback Scheme, T150 secures competitive gas and electricity rates for good causes – and then donates a portion of its brokerage fee directly to those organisations.
In 2025 alone, the T150 achieved more than £585,650 in combined savings and donations, with more than £20,000 donated through The Payback Scheme.
Judges said: “T150 Energy demonstrates exceptional community impact by combining business expertise with genuine care.
“They demonstrate how a small, purpose-driven business can have a wider social impact.”
