Last month The Globe Group CIC (Community Interest Company) appointed a new board, to support in scaling up its programmes and initiatives that support communities and businesses across Staffordshire to be more climate aware and energy efficient.
The UK is facing an unprecedented cost of living crisis, with inflation at a forty-year high and with rising energy costs there has never been a more crucial time to scale up environmental programmes which not only address the climate crisis but also help to tackle the issues of fuel poverty and increasing social inequality.
This Staffordshire based, not-for-profit, was established to support communities and businesses through this transitional time, building climate resilience, skills and activities to make communities more robust and futureproof the systems that support them. They run a range of programmes from a zero-waste shop, repair room and provide advice and support to communities and businesses on environmental issues. The appointment of the board is in recognition of the need to scale up the activity of the Globe Group to enable them to increase their reach and impact as they help to address these growing challenges.
The board, launched this month, includes representation from well-known industry brands, academia and the community, with the hope that this move will enable Globe to secure funding and financial support from corporates to upscale regional climate support into Staffordshire and the wider area.
The Globe Group Director, Kate Copeland said:
“The climate challenge we face is so time-critical that we must act quickly and effectively in increasing our impact to meet our new reality. Now, with the guidance of such inspirational industry leaders, we will be in a position to tackle that challenge head-on, catalysing the change that needs to happen at local and national levels.”
Liz Dumergue, Board Chair added:
“The new board members have worked with stakeholders at all levels from large businesses, NGOs, investors and politicians. They are passionate about ensuring that there are sufficient resources, strategically targeted, to address the environmental crisis that affects all of us. Their knowledge and expertise will help us secure funding and corporate partners to deliver the quality work of the foundation, at scale.”
