As Staffordshire Business Environment Network continues to grow, we are pleased to be able to offer free membership in 2023/24 to Staffordshire businesses with the continued support of Staffordshire County Council and to Stoke on Trent businesses with the support of our new sponsors Steelite International and Michelin Tyre PLC.

Patrick Griffin, Site Service Director from Steelite International said

“We were thrilled to sponsor sben, supporting the continuation of the network in helping and supporting businesses across Staffordshire to be more sustainable. We have been members of sben since 1999, benefiting from environmental legislation updates and events.

We’ve won awards for Environmental best practice, through investment and development into manufacturing techniques, use of materials, the durability and longevity of our products, and this has ultimately led to us recycling over 99% of our waste.

Sustainability and being part of the sben network is very much at the heart of what we do, so we welcomed the opportunity to support the continuation of the network in helping and supporting businesses across Staffordshire to be more sustainable”.

Jethro Smith, UK Environment & Prevention Manager Michelin Tyre PLC said

‘Michelin Tyre PLC’ [Michelin] is delighted to reveal ourselves as one of the local sponsors of the ‘Staffordshire Business Environmental Network’ [SBEN]. We are extremely proud of our shared heritage with the City of Stoke on Trent in the county of Staffordshire, beginning as it did nearly 120 years ago on 11th May 1905.

This network of commercial entities with common interests makes an essential contribution on environmental matters. It offers support and expertise to local businesses, individuals and communities as we embark on a common journey towards our shared sustainability goals.

Tangible examples of the excellent work SBEN does in promoting and supporting our business community can be seen through their alerts process relating to changes in legislation, through their guidance on assessing and demonstrating the sustainability of your business to others, and then showcasing these successes at locally organised events and seminars with guest speakers, providing inspiration and motivation for all involved.

A long-standing member and supporter of the SBEN, Michelin is keen to contribute and showcase Michelin efforts in becoming an ‘all sustainable’ business. Indeed, Michelin’s global directions relating to People, Profit and Planet can best be demonstrated at our factory and sales office along Campbell Road in Stoke.

Our factory remanufactures tyres for large commercial vehicles. The aim is to deliver a product which offers comparable performance to a new tyre whilst reducing the requirement for virgin materials by around 85% *.

Whist this remanufacturing process significantly reduces the amount of Green House Gases [GHG] we emit, it is far from the only sustainable activity on site. For starters, we closely monitor the usage of water, energy and organic solvents and we recycle 100% of the waste we generate . . . and don’t get us started on how energy efficient our products and services are and the potential they have to impact upon your Scope 3 reporting.

In fact, why don’t you come and speak to us if you’d like to find out more.
