Great Expectations
From our last update with The Tawny Hotel in late Autumn, they had secured a grant of £43,537 for a Solar PV Array system of 130kWp. Since then, we have had more developments. The Tawny Hotel have been able to increase their systems size to 162.5kWh, increasing the panel amount by 50, and have also installed battery storage alongside their Solar Array (this was not included in their project or grant amount though). Although their project cost has increased, they were luckily able to increase their grant and receive our top solar grant amount of £50,000. This has had an amazing impact on their savings.
Initially they had a little set back with their installation, but they have recently gone live with their Solar in the Spring. Their costs savings have doubled from what was predicted going from £14,350 to £30,000! They have also estimated that their energy usage will drop a further 27,000 kWh, with the original savings of 122,190 kWh up to 150,000 kWh. This has had a knock-on effect of saving them a further 8.6 tonnes of C02 emissions and reducing their payback period from 8.3 years down to 3.4 years.
