Tawny August 2022, The Tawny Hotel, cabins, gardens, lakes
Introduction
The Tawny Hotel, a luxurious hotel located in a particularly beautiful part of Staffordshire’s Churnet Valley, have now been successful in securing a £43,538 grant towards installing Solar Panels and cutting energy bills.
Earlier this year, The Tawny Hotel spotted an opportunity for a free independent assessment of their energy use and decided to take action by applying to the Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS), run by the Staffordshire County Council. Having expressed their interest in the scheme in June, they were referred over within 3 days for their energy assessment, two weeks later, they had their site reviewed to highlight areas where they would be able to reduce energy costs.
The Grant Process
In July 2025, their report was completed, which presented recommendations on how the business could improve their energy efficiency. The Tawny Hotel decided to continue and apply for grant funding to install a 130kWp Solar PV Array.
The application process took just 2 months to complete. Here is what The Tawny Hotel has to say about the process:
“We were actually impressed at how simple this process was! Someone was in touch with us within days, and the team give us all the information we needed to complete the necessary forms, and the replies and confirmations were very fast (Thank you Lisa!). We were told a date we would get a decision, and we did indeed find out on that date – with no delays!”
Grant Savings
The grant funding was agreed for a £87k project, which is estimated to save the business over £14,350 annually and give them an A++ EPC Rating.
Here their thoughts about how the new Solar Panels will help their business:
“The new Solar PV Array will make a drastic impact for our business. Not only will we be looking at saving on our energy bills, we will also be offsetting a huge amount of carbon, which is the equivalent of planting over 1,200 trees. We are committed to be a sustainable hotel, and this grant has helped us accelerate this vision to an even higher level.”
“We look forward in providing an update soon, upon the completion of our new Solar Array.”
