Identifying the Next Steps

The South Staffordshire contract lifting, machinery transportation, industrial
storage and freight forwarding specialists, Factory Plant Projects Ltd, were able to secure funding for both a grant and a loan, as they purchased two Electric Forklift Trucks to help the work at their premises. They were able to move forward with this upgrade after it was recommended to them in their Energy Assessment.

“The assessment provided practical, tailored recommendations that helped us identify opportunities to improve our energy efficiency and reduce operating costs. It also gave us the confidence to invest in energy-saving equipment.”

Reduced Losses

The new Electric Forklifts have replaced the previous LPG-powered ones that were approaching 20-30 years of age. The newer models use less energy than equivalent combustion engine machines due to reduced losses from waste heat and eliminating engine idle losses. This change will allow Factory Plant Projects Ltd to reduce their energy consumption by 1,700 kWh per year and their carbon by 2.89 tonnes per year. These changes have had added benefits of being more reliable, efficient, quieter and smoother than their previous models.

“The two electric forklift trucks have made a significant difference to our day-to-day operations. They are quieter, more efficient, and easier to operate than our previous equipment, helping to improve operations within sensitive environments such as food production facilities. The switch to electric has reduced our fuel usage, while also supporting our commitment to lowering emissions and operating in a more sustainable way.”

Supported Investments

With the large project cost of more than one-hundred thousand pounds, it can be often too much for a business to take on alone, Factory Plant Projects Ltd, “would not have implemented the Energy Assessment recommendations without the support of the Grant and Loan funding.”

“The financial assistance made it possible for us to invest in the two electric forklift trucks, which would otherwise have been a significant cost for the business. The funding reduced the financial barrier and allowed us to make an important step towards improving our energy efficiency, reducing running costs, and lowering our environmental impact.”
