Energy & Cost Savings

Churnet Valley Joinery Ltd, a specialist manufacturer of wooden windows, doors and cabinetry, sought to improve their energy efficiency and reduce long term operational costs. Through an Energy Assessment and Low Carbon Grant support, the business successfully installed a 6.4 kWh Solar PV Array and a Screw Compressor, both key recommendations identified by Energy Consultants, ProEnviro Ltd.

How did you find the Energy Assessment, would you recommend it to others?

“We would recommend an Energy Assessment to another business because some larger long term asset purchases need financial help to be sure the investment makes sense.”

Business Impact

The project – valued at £10,114 and supported by a £5,057 grant – has delivered meaningful environmental and financial benefits. It is estimated to save the business over £781 annually and 3,832 kWh per year reducing their annual carbon emissions by 0.86 tonnes.

The Solar PV system has been very effective at reducing electricity costs, especially from installation in August through to October. While winter energy generation was naturally lower, the business expects output to rise again in spring. Additionally, the new Screw Compressor is more reliable and significantly quieter, improving both efficiency and working conditions.

“We would not have been able to implement our EA Recommendations without the grant aid due to financial constraints but definitely should have looked at Solar PV sooner.”

Grant Process

How did you find the grant application process?

“The Energy Assessment application was very simple to arrange with useful advice and guidance available. The Grant Application took a while to complete, but any questions were quickly answered and helped make the process easier.”

What was your experience like?

“Our experience was very positive with the Green Solutions team. I felt all questions and concerns were answered very quickly.

‘Thank you for helping to gain grant funding, both these assets will be hugely beneficial over the next ten plus years.”
