Introduction

Industrial Engineering & Installation Services Ltd were able to have an Energy Assessment, carried out by Pro Enviro Ltd to identify several areas where the business would be able to reduce their energy usage and bills: Lincoln Plasma, LED Lighting System, and a Solar PV Array. After careful consideration they decided to pursue all three recommendations. The energy assessment was conducted by Matthew Welstead, from Pro Enviro Ltd, who was able to explain the process in excellent clarity and conducted a comprehensive examination of their facility.

Grant Process

The next stage was the grant application process, for three recommendations can be a daunting task if you are unfamiliar with the process or have not completed a grant application before. But, at Staffordshire’s County Council, we have ensured that our applications are as simple as possible to help businesses out, but if needed we are always there to give a helping hand.

“When I first looked at the application form, I felt overwhelmed since I had never applied for a grant before. It took me some time to get my head around it, but once I started, I found it to be straightforward. I received a lot of help and support from Madeleine at Staffordshire County Council, who was absolutely fantastic in guiding me through the process.”

Massive Savings & Smooth Operations

Changing to more efficient systems can not only impact your energy savings, but it can also have a very positive practical impact. Industrial Engineering & Installation Services Ltd had operated on an old 2006 Bystronic Byspeed 3015 CO2 laser which was inefficient particularly due to its outdated laser technology. Upgrading to a Modern Plasma Laser could provide estimated annual energy savings of 41,550 kWh resulting in saving of £10,500 per year on this operation alone.

“This has made a significant difference to us both practically and financially. It has improved efficiency and reduced our energy costs, making our operations smoother and more sustainable.”

Bright Lights

For such a small change the LED Lighting system is estimated to reduce energy consumption by 10,780 kWh per year and save the business an extra £2,723 per year after making the switch. This swap can hugely impact your working conditions too as it can improve the lighting quality.

“The impact of the LED Lighting has been remarkable for the team working on the shop floor. The lighting is much better during the winter months, which has improved working conditions. Additionally, this upgrade is expected to have a positive effect on our utility bills.”

Super Solar for Super Savings

The third installation that was made to their premises was a 55.2 kWh Solar PV Array. This will have a massive impact on energy bills particularly during the summer months from May to August. The estimated energy generated by the recommended array is 61,120 kWh per annum. This will save the business an estimated 34,140 kWh per annum on their energy usage and a further £9,160 on their annual savings.

“We anticipate a substantial reduction in our utility bills, making a real difference for our energy costs.”

Funding Impact

With all three projects costing £88,044, Industrial Engineering & Installation Services Ltd, are expected to have paid back these projects in 4 years, but when taking their 50% grant into account they will see the difference is just 2 years!

Accessing the free energy assessment and the 50% Low Carbon Grant Industrial Engineering & Installation Services Ltd were able to become more efficient, and sustainable. They were able to implement these massive changes, but without the Energy Assessment guidance and funding support, this would not have been possible.

“The funding made it financially feasible for us to invest in the necessary upgrades and improvements that might have otherwise been beyond our budget. The grant provided us with the confidence and resources to take these important steps toward becoming more sustainable and energy efficient.”
